Students from Ermel Elementary host a holiday food drive for the pantry
The Social Concerns Ministry consists of five separate ministries all working toward one goal.
The Food Pantry
The food pantry is open to provide nourishment to the hungry of our community. Our Christmas Basket Program, bread distribution, and Channel 13's Share Your Christmas are all programs sponsored by our food pantry. Pantry volunteers are always needed to pick up food, make food baskets, and to keep the pantry neat and tidy. We especially need help at Christmas time with wrapping gifts and assembling baskets.
Respect Life Committee
Embrace the Gospel's call to protect human life at all stages from womb to natural death. Members of Respect Life work with Respect Life Month in October, the Gabriel Project, and the May Baby Shower. Help is needed praying rosaries for life, organizing the baby shower, knitting or crocheting baby blankets, assembling layettes and working with women in crisis pregnancies.
Community Life Ministry
The Community Life Ministry attempts to provide guidance and meet practical needs of those in our community. Parish projects such as Operation Backpack, Parish Blood Drives, and Red Cross Relief fall under this ministry. Operation Backpack helps to offset the cost of school supplies to the children of our community. We need help collecting supplies and assembling packets. Volunteers can help with the blood drive and Red Cross Relief after emergencies such as fire or weather.
Caregivers & Helping Hands
This ministry assists with social service needs of the elderly and those confined to their homes. We need people willing to be care partners and offer company and companionship to those in need, especially our elderly. Care Partners can also help with occasional transportation and minor home repairs.
Justice and Peace Committee
Justice and Peace encourages people to examine institutions and laws in the light of the Gospel and Church teachings. This committee helps with Love Loaves so that we may gain a global vision of Justice and Peace, voter registration after Masses and the formation of our teachings within the Parish. Volunteers are needed to distribute and count Love Loaves at Easter time, register parishioners to vote, publicizing Church views, write letters and pray.
If you are interested in volunteering or donating to social concerns, please contact Jennifer in the Parish office.
